A Brief History of The Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater

Bridgwater Forest, the first neighbourhood developed in The Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater, named in honour of Arthur Bridgwater, who served as chief of the then Fort Garry Police Department from 1945 to 1974. Not only does the name memorialize Mr. Bridgwater's many years of dedicated public service, it also commemorates local history as the former site of the Bridgwater Park police shooting range. All neighbourhoods are using the Bridgwater name which is in honour of Arthur Bridgwater's legacy.

Get in the Geothermal Loop

Geothermal IconNew homes in the Bridgwater neighbourhood can be built with geothermal heating and cooling systems, helping to beat rising energy costs while at the same time, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Here's how it works:

  1. The sun's energy is stored just below the ground.
  2. A ground "loop" (buried piping system) extracts the heat from the earth.
  3. A geothermal heat pump concentrates the energy and releases it inside the house.
  4. For cooling the house in the summer, the process is simply reversed.

The Manitoba government is now offering exciting incentives to homeowners and commercial building owners for geothermal installations. This proven technology could save up to 70 per cent on your annual heating costs.
